Rear to Stay: Dodge keeps the classic American sedan alive. And kicking. The American road used to be lousy with full-size, front-engine, V-8?powered, rear-drive domestic sedans; now, with FoMoCo?s Crown Vic/Grand Marquis/Town Car gone, it feels like the big LX platform, which underpins the Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300, ought to be in a zoo. [...]

If the government catches you drinking and driving, you will be arrested, fined and possibly jailed. And rightly so. Drunk driving kills almost 11,000 people annually in the United States, more than the number of U.S. soldiers killed in our multiple wars over the past decade.
On the other hand, government agencies are rolling out the [...]

NASCAR and Kentucky Speedway owners have vowed to understand and fix the traffic issues that cast a shadow over the inaugural Sprint Cup Series event at the track. Despite the great attendance for the first Cup race at the venue, massive traffic jams before and after the event dampened its success and left both NASCAR and track owner Speedway Motorsports Inc (SMI) under scrutiny from fans. NASCAR president Mike Helton addressed the situation on Friday at Loudon, New Hampshire, and stated that work is already underway to determine the root of the traffic situation and implement plans to prevent a repeat for future events

Now that the New one is gone, we?re just going to say it: It was a chick car. Was. Throughout its 73-year history, the VW Beetle has embodied VW?s ?people?s car? philosophy, the original Type 1 becoming more than 21 million people?s car before production finally ceased in Mexico in 2003. It was only during [...]

This morning, the House voted 232-182 for an Energy and Water Appropriations bill that redirects $1 billion of high-speed rail money to flood relief for the Midwest.
Of course midwestern flood victims need relief. What does that have to do with high speed rail? Photo: NOAA
Never mind that that flood relief won’t arrive for many months, [...]

Yvan Muller's emphatic World Touring Car Championship double at Donington Park last weekend allowed him to break into the Castrol EDGE Rankings top 60. In what was the WTCC's first visit to the circuit following a five-year spell at Brands Hatch, Muller claimed pole position and both race victories to move closer to championship leader Rob Huff, with whom he clashed in the second race.

Rob Huff's run of good form continued continued at Donington Park today, with the Briton topping the times in the World Touring Car Championship's opening practice session. Heavy rain greeted the drivers when they first took to the track, but Huff established himself at the head of the field early on. The Briton's Chevrolet team-mate Yvan Muller managed to knock him from the top spot as conditions improved slightly towards the end, but Huff responded with a 1m51.712s that proved beyond the reach of anyone else.

Valentino Rossi is now unsure about switching back to Ducati's old-spec GP11 following an improved performance at the German Grand Prix. After qualifying a dismal 16th for the Sachsenring race, Rossi said that the revised GP11.1, which was introduced three races ago and is largely based on next year's bike, was difficult to ride.

It seems that iRacing.com is something of a sponsor magnet these days.  Hard on the heels of last week’s announcement of the iRacing.com NVIDIA Series comes news that two companies have signed-on in support of sim racer Nolan Scott in time for Round Twelve of the 2011 NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship, slated for Tuesday, July 19 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Nordic Online, a server and website design company, and a new iRacing paint shop named THDesigns announced they will partner in sponsoring Scott for the remaining seven races of the 2011 season. ?It?s a step in the right direction,” says Scott.  “I love simulation racing, and it?s nice to see that with the dramatic increase of popularity and media that sponsorship could someday become a serious business within [...]

Fiat 500 Marcia Corta by Camal
Fiat 500 Marcia Corta by Camal - Click above for image gallery

We've seen all sorts of things done with the Fiat 500. People have chopped the roof off, covered it in gold, planted trees in it, taken it rallying and even moved the engine to the trunk. The latest, however, could prove the most intriguing.

Founded by a couple of former Pininfarina designers, a new outfit called Camal is working on the project you see here. Called the 500 Marcia Corta (Italian for short gearing), the idea is to give the Cinquecento a more rally-inspired look.

The signature elements are quad rally lamps, giant grille opening and full aero kit with side skirts, fender flares and rear ring. A rear bumper mimics the look in front, integrating a new exhaust system.

The creators are reportedly looking for funding to get their project off the ground. In the meantime, check out the renderings in the gallery for a closer look.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button are both hoping a partisan home crown can inspire them to victory at the British Grand Prix next weekend. Although McLaren face a tough challenge at Silverstone, having struggled to cope with the pace of Red Bull last time out in Valencia, further restrictions to off-throttle exhaust blowing could offer them a chance to reclose that gap.

Jorge Lorenzo showed that his Friday confidence was well-founded as he beat Marco Simoncelli to the fastest time in final practice with the fastest ever MotoGP lap of Mugello. Although Lorenzo was only fourth quickest in Friday's only dry session, he was optimistic that his Yamaha could be a match for the Hondas on pure pace in Italy.
